- Description
The Roma Tiburtina station is a railway station in Rome, managed by Grandi Stazioni, located on the line to Florence, at the confluence of the Pietralata, Nomentano, and Tiburtino districts. In 2011 it was dedicated to Camillo Benso, Count of Cavour, during the ceremonies for the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy. Located in the north-eastern part of the city, it was originally constructed during the 1860s as a terminal station. In recent years, the station has been redeveloped to better serve as a hub for the Italian high-speed rail services. Tiburtina is also destined to become the main Roman hub.
With over 500 trains a day, 140,000 daily transits and about 51 million passengers a year it is the second largest train station in Rome, after Roma Termini, and the sixth at the national level. It is served by all long-distance trains passing north-south, which do not come from Rome Termini , and from the regional lines FL1 and is the terminus of FL2 and FL3 .
In the same complex is the homonymous station, Tiburtina, of line B of the Rome underground. Just in front of the station square is the Tibus Bus Station, a modern terminal for arrivals and departures of medium and long-distance buses for both Italy and abroad. In addition, the station square serves as the terminus for numerous bus lines that connect it with the Pietralata, Tiburtino and Casal Bertone districts and the city center. Private vehicle users are provided with more than 100,000 spaces across multiple on-site car parks.
Its coordinates are 41°54′37″N 12°31′51″E with 20 platforms. It is located 4.5 km (2.8 mi) from Roma Termini.
